Glogster

Thus far my experience with Glogster has been simple and only involved setting up my account. I am very excited about this site because it seems to allow me to provide different avenues of learning under one roof. In a sense it appears to be a one stop shop. Those are my thoughts so far and I will continue to look to utilize the tool. Below I have attached a link to my Glogster so feel free to check it out.

Social Bookmarking

At first I though about creating a Pinterest but I decided to go with Delicious since it I knew a little less about it. After creating an account and doing some digging around I found it to be very useful. Different types of websites, articles, pictures, among other things were readily available at my finger tip for the topic I sought out. It seemed to take no time at all to get used to it and I believe it would be easy to explain how to utilize it in class. This is a tool that I will continue to research further and hope to one day utilize in class. Below I have included a link to my page.

Google Docs

I would highly recommend the use of Google Docs. There are so many different ways a teacher can utilize it including having a medium for students to use at home as well as opportunities for classmates to collaborate easily on projects. I know that I have barely scratched the surface on the uses of Google Docs but I have enjoyed my experience with it thus far and will continue to seek out the different uses for such a great program. Below I have a link to one of my Google Doc assignments.

RSS Reader

Overall, this was my first experience dealing with a RSS Reader website and I greatly enjoyed it. At first I just began to look at a certain topic but then I began to get drawn into other topics that interested me as well. While doing so, my curiosity was sparked by various topics and information that made me want to research even more. Since I have thought about the possible impact that it could have upon my student's learning through a heightened sense of interest and hopefully engagement.

In reference to teachers having PLN's I completely agree. In my opinion it is always a great idea to get advice from others in the teaching field because it allows us as educators to share pertinent information and get different perspectives on teaching. By doing so we open ourselves up to discuss and share ideas about what may improve or hurt the learning environments we create in our classrooms.

Wiki

This was another eye opening tool. After exploring the website I was able to quickly realize what it brought to the table. It seems to be an easy way for teachers to communicate with their students. The first tool I came across was a forum for discussion. I simply input a question where students would be able to answer and provide their opinions on the subject. Following this I found a link for providing information on projects assigned. Details including an outline of the project, as well as date assigned and due date were all applicable. Also once I created it an option was provided to me where I could send to various groups (or my classes) in which it gave me the option of choosing those that I would like to assign it to. In addition I later noticed that there was a calendar with the dates of the project included on it.

Although I know I was just scratching the surface of this website I believe it would be a time saving that would be serve the needs of students as well as teachers because it is very user-friendly and provides transparency. Below is a link to my Wikispace.

Toondoo

I ended up looking to create a digital story through toons on Toondoo. Overall I thought it was a very cool and intriguing site. It allowed me to find and use characters to use in my story. Also, the backgrounds and discussion bubbles were available to show conversations. The only downside was that it took a little longer than I originally thought and I could not figure out how to add more scenes. Outside of this I see it as being a useful tool but one that I would have to look further into. Below is a link to my digital story.

Gliffy

After looking over the options for researching various websites I decided to go with Gliffy. Gliffy is a website that allows users to utilize a collection of images or symbols to create different things. I was interested also because it allowed users to create blueprints for buildings or other projects. Once I was on the website I created a basic floor plan which was simple and interesting to do. This tool would be useful in the class that I teach in order to show how applicable knowing how to calculate area is and how important it is for architects, engineers, builders, and carpenters. This is where I would hope to spark the interest of those seeking to work in the construction field. In addition to this feature there were various other options involving symbols as well as creating Venn Diagrams that I figured would be cool too. Below is a link to an example of work I created on Gliffy.

  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't use Pinterest. Pinterest is a great site for social bookmarking but now that I've used Delicious, I find it more helpful for my classroom. Keep up the great work!
