Linking Interests To Learning

Drawing Off Of The Previous Video

In My Opinion:

Just like any other thing in life you have to understand your audience in order to gain interest. This idea is true very much so in the classroom as well. In order to have students engaged in the lesson you are teaching you need to first understand them. If you do not understand what kids are into these days such as music, entertainment, movies, their hobbies, trends, etc. then you may miss an opportunity to become somewhat relatable to them. By keeping up with their interests you may find common ground where you can relate what sparks their interest to what you are trying to teach them.

Below are a few general areas in which I have noticed where ground can be gained as far as interests:

  • Music
  • Entertainment
  • Movies
  • Sports
  • Art
  • Reading
  • Clothing
  • Food
I apologize if there are few that I have missed forgot to mention but these are the areas I have noticed so far in my career. As I stated earlier the importance of learning these areas is in order to apply teaching concepts and lessons to that of the students' interests.
